Hakeem Paragon

Tonight’s featured artist is Hakeem Paragon. He came to me in a dream and asked me to review his music on Instagram. Then around 2pm the next day I realized that I have been sleep texting people in the middle of the night and he was in fact real and I had in fact talked to him. So, that happened. No more phone for me at night!

Anywho… Hakeem is from Milwaukee, WI – but he currently lives in Honolulu, Hawaii. He started to get into rap at a very young age and started taking his craft seriously around fifteen.

He performs around Hawaii, so most of us won’t be seeing him live any time soon (unless he catches on to live feed on Instagram… hint, hint).

Hakeem Paragon – The music

Hakeem wants his music to be a lighter mood setter. He wants it to be something you listen to at a BBQ, a go to for people that need a break from the usual aggression and violence in modern rap.

His recently released the album “A Sunflower in the Shade”. Does that maybe sound a little close to home on the Nevernaire Stomping ground blog? Where the tagline is “Shining Light on the talent in the Shadows”. This was what prompted him to contact me. That similarity. And i’m glad he did.

LOVE THE ARTWORK!

I’ve been listening to the album all day. “Big L” is my favorite track so far. Thoughtful lyrics with a positive message and a relaxed flow and track. The instrumentals are reminiscent of a Bone Thugs joint from the 90’s but the lyrics are all about the power of positivity. I think it has caught my attention because in these times, that’s something I need and I’m sure it’s something you need too!

Tonight we will be listening to “Love Don’t” off the same album. This song is again, reminiscent of Bone Thugs… there’s just something about the vibe that makes me hear that. The back ground vocals, the echo, the instrumental… that’s where it’s at.

Hakeem says he is a once a year kind of guy, so don’t expect a new album to come out for a while. But, I’m sure that when it does drop, it’s going to be well worth the wait.

Follow him on INSTAGRAM and subscribe to his YOUTUBE.
