Keysha Freshh is fresh for sure
Hey guys what’s up? Tonight’s featured artist is Keysha Freshh out of Durham, Toronto in Canada. This is some serious talent that we are talking about tonight! Keysha is polished and ready to represent the females in modern Boom bap. I had the pleasure of speaking with her and she is an intelligent, confident woman that is primed to rep against the boys.
Crystal: Hardcore, boom bap, female MCs are hard to find. How has it been being a female coming up in a male dominated industry?
Keysha: It’s been pretty fun. I actually don’t have much complaints, a lot of the OGs welcomed me with open arms from the start so no one really questioned me or gave me a hard time, which was pretty cool.
Crystal: I know that you grew up in the Burroughs. Your style screams NY. How has the move affected your style and outlook on Hip hop?
Keysha: I actually grew up in Toronto, but spent all of my summers growing up in between East, NY and Long Island. The time spent between Toronto and NYC really helped shape my style and flavour because both cities are so diverse in their own right.
Crystal: You’re clearly a sneakerhead 🙂 if you could have one pair of kicks, any at all, what would they be?
Keysha: Hm, that’s a tough one, I pretty much buy the pairs that I want. But I’ll say, the blue Union x Jordan 1! Those are freshh.
Incredible. Her flow is so barsy and she just kills the beat. She uses it perfectly and her ad libs are perfect. She is thoughtful and you can tell from the production that she puts a lot of love and work into her music.
This is very Foxy Brown circa 1995 but with this AMAZING hook with beautiful vocals that take you away. She’s a modern take on all the best things about Boom bap.
Keysha – What’s next?
So, Keysha took some time off from music to do some influencer stuff with her love of sneakers. But don’t be disappointed because she plans on keeping the hits coming. Her music can really take her somewhere. She is already ALL over the internet. She’s been featured on blogs like Urbanology and The Fader. That’s pretty great!
